WIDE AWAKE

In addition to artists such as mag. the sculptor Marijan Mirt, who is constantly questioning life, society and our planet, important philosophers also dealt with anthropological and existential problems and the future of human society. It is artists and creators who are prophets and predictors of our future. They look with the heart, so they see what is essential, which is invisible to the eyes (Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince, 1943). The life and development of the community and the man in it has been an eternal research topic of philosophers over time. From Thomas Aquinas in the Gothic, to Immanuel Kant, Arthur Schopenhauer, Friedrich Nietzsche, Søren Kierkegaard, Michel Foucault,... in the last century and to today's chaos theory of the "academic rock star", the world philosopher Slavoj Žižek, the question has been: "Where to do we move, where and where do we walk?", a basic guideline for philosophical research. Mirt, however, rightfully wonders with concern: "Did we completely pass out and perhaps wake up too late?" Human nature is already full of incomprehensible and unanswered riddles, and unfortunately, the car is also highly destructive and limited in awareness. Its position in the boundless cosmos, the phenomenon of time, the relationship between culture and nature, the increasing isolation of the individual in a growing society, migration, which is a struggle for the bare life and survival of the masses, the assimilation of nations, the different material conditions known in urban and rural environments, problems gender, the role of love and the attitude to death and last but not least the eternal armed battles and wars between nations are just some of the fundamental negative elements that have escaped from the open Pandora's box and burden a sensitive artist like Mirt and force him to express himself. They influence him probably even more than philosophers, social scientists, psychologists,... and anthropologists. Sculptor Marijan Mirt, within the framework of his superb creations and with his own artistic language, has always tried to answer and repeatedly asks serious philosophical and existential questions that touch on fine visual art and the current state of society and our environment. In his artistic work, the artist relies on the symbolism of classical mythology, from a neo-mannerist point of view he creates his own sculptures, which are in zoomorphic form, just a metaphor for man today. But there are also, e.g. Wild pigs in a herd, a rebellion against man's inexorable destruction of vast natural biotopes and the cause of many negative climate shifts. Let's destroy and banish everything that bothers us and that we fear! But  feral pigs are returning to where they came from, to their primary natural environment, which we have urbanized and taken away from them. They can be a parable and a connection with migrants, with foreigners and their struggle for bare survival. But they are also a warning about the broken balance, which ruthlessly shrinks and destroys everything, especially the space on which we can live.

Marijan Mirt was born in Zagreb (1975), where he attended the High School for Design and Design, then the Academy of Fine Arts, where he graduated from the Academy of Arts. sculptor prof. VOLL WACH
